What Did Jesus Say About Repentance?
Jesus began His public message with a single word, repent, and He meant it as an open door, not a threat. To repent is to turn: to change your mind about sin and turn back to the God who is already running to meet you.
“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

What Jesus is really saying
For Jesus, repentance is never grovelling; it is turning. He names sin plainly, yet every time He speaks of turning back He speaks of joy: a shepherd finding his sheep, a father embracing his son, heaven itself rejoicing. Repentance is not the price you pay to be loved. It is the turn you make because you already are.
Who these words reveal Him to be
Listen to who is speaking. Only God has the right to call all people to turn and be forgiven, yet Jesus issues that call in His own name and says forgiveness is preached through Him. He does not point us to a distant God to be appeased; He is God come near, the Savior in whom our turning finds a welcome. To repent toward Him is to come home to the Lord Himself.
Come to Him
Jesus does not wait at the end of a long road for you to clean yourself up. He meets you the moment you turn, and He does the forgiving. You can turn to Him today, just as you are.
