The words of Jesus
What Did Jesus Say About Following Him?
Again and again, Jesus gave one simple invitation: follow me. Here is what He said about walking after Him.
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Jesus, in Matthew 4:19, King James Version
He calls ordinary people and gives them a new purpose.
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
Jesus, in Matthew 16:24, King James Version
Following Him means letting Him lead, whatever the cost.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
Jesus, in John 10:27, King James Version
His own recognize His voice and come.
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Jesus, in John 8:12, King James Version
To follow Him is to walk in light.
“No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Jesus, in Luke 9:62, King James Version
He asks for a heart that goes forward with Him.
Come to Him
To follow Jesus is not to keep rules from a distance but to keep company with a Person. The invitation is still open, and it is still the same: follow me.
His words were always meant to lead you to Himself. You can begin with Jesus here, ask someone to pray with you, or read His words in the Bible.
