What Did Jesus Say About Abiding in Him?
Jesus called Himself the vine and us the branches, and He said the whole secret of a fruitful life is staying connected to Him. Apart from Him we can do nothing; joined to Him, we bear much fruit.
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

What Jesus is really saying
Jesus does not ask branches to manufacture fruit; He asks them to stay attached. This reframes the whole Christian life. It is not white-knuckled effort but a daily staying close, drawing life from Him the way a branch draws sap. The fruit comes not from striving but from abiding.
Who these words reveal Him to be
I am the vine, ye are the branches. Jesus makes Himself the very source of our life, a claim only God could make. Apart from Him, He says, we can do nothing, and joined to Him we bear much fruit. He is not merely an example to imitate but the Lord to live in, the Savior whose life flows into ours. To abide in Him is to draw life from God Himself, moment by moment.
Come to Him
You were never meant to live the Christian life on your own strength. Stay close to Jesus, day by day, and He will produce in you what you could never produce alone.
