The later years bring their own gifts and their own trials: a lifetime of memory and faith, and also loss, limitation, and sometimes loneliness. These verses are for seniors, to assure you that God does not set His people down in old age but carries them all the way home.
What God says over the later years
“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”
My flesh and heart may fail, but God is my strength and portion forever.
“Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.”
Though the outward self perishes, the inward is renewed day by day.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
The God who carried you as a child is carrying you still, and He will carry you home. Your body may weaken, but in Christ your inner self is being renewed day by day, and the best is truly yet to come. The faith of a lifetime is not wasted; it is nearly complete. Jesus has been faithful all your years, and He will not fail you now.
Lord, thank You for a lifetime of Your faithfulness. Carry me now in these later years. When my strength fails, be my strength. Use my remaining days and my prayers for Your kingdom. Keep me close, and bring me safely home to You. In Jesus name, amen.
You were never meant to walk this alone
The family here will pray with you, and you can hear how Christ has met others in the same place.
Isaiah 46:4 ('even to your old age... will I carry you') and Psalm 92:14 (still bringing forth fruit) are deeply reassuring for seniors, along with Psalm 71.
What does the Bible say about growing old?
It honors old age as a crown of glory (Proverbs 16:31), promises God's care to the end (Isaiah 46:4), and assures that though the body weakens, the spirit is renewed daily (2 Corinthians 4:16).
