Freedom From Lust
Lust is not the same as being alive to beauty or desire; it is desire hijacked, turned from delighting in a person into consuming an image. If it has become a pattern you cannot seem to break, you are not uniquely broken, and you are not a lost cause. Jesus took lust seriously precisely because He took people seriously, whosoever looketh, He said, naming how the private eye of the heart matters, not to crush you but because He knew that what we feed in secret shapes who we become. Freedom here is real, and it grows less by gritting your teeth and more by a cleaner, stronger love crowding the counterfeit out.

Let's be honest about this
Let us be honest that shame is a terrible engine for change. Hating yourself after every failure does not weaken lust; it isolates you and drives you back to the very thing you are ashamed of. So the goal is not more self-contempt but more honesty and more light. Bring it to someone safe. Learn your triggers, the times, moods, and inputs that set it off, and plan around them before they arrive. And refuse the lie that a struggle here makes you a hypocrite unfit to come to God. The people God uses are not the ones who never struggle; they are the ones who keep bringing the struggle into His light.
What's really going on
Purity of heart is not mainly about suppression; it is about redirection, learning to want the real thing more than the counterfeit. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way, the Psalm asks, and answers, by taking heed thereto according to thy word. The mind you fill is the mind you become, so what you take in matters. Flee youthful lusts, Scripture says, and in the same breath, follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, because you do not defeat a desire by white-knuckling against it but by pursuing a better one. Lust starves in the presence of real love, real community, and a heart increasingly captivated by God.
Where freedom actually comes from
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man, Scripture says, so you are not a special case of depravity; you are a human being. And God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape. There is always a way of escape, and part of maturity is taking it early. But deeper than any technique is this: Jesus offers your heart a love so real and so satisfying that the counterfeit loses its power. He does not merely forbid lust; He fills the hunger it was falsely feeding.

Is it a sin just to feel attracted to someone?
No. Attraction and desire are part of being human and are not themselves sin. Jesus was speaking about cultivating lust, feeding it, dwelling in it, treating a person as an object to consume. Noticing beauty is not the problem; harboring and pursuing it in the heart is what He addressed. Do not confuse temptation with failure.
How is fighting lust different from just repressing it?
Repression tries to crush a desire by force and usually fails, because the underlying hunger is unmet. Freedom redirects the desire toward what is real and good, and lets a stronger love crowd out the counterfeit. You flee the wrong thing and pursue the right thing at the same time. That is why community and a heart captivated by God matter more than sheer suppression.
I keep failing here. Can God still use me?
Yes. God consistently uses people who are still in the middle of their struggles, not only the finished and flawless. What matters is that you keep bringing it into His light rather than hiding. Grace is not permission to stay stuck; it is the power to keep getting up and moving toward freedom.
