There is a place for you

Faith in Recovery

Yes, there is a place for you, in the middle of the struggle, not only after you have it beaten. Jesus said he came to seek and to save the lost, and he told a woman caught in her worst moment that he did not condemn her. Recovery is a long, honest road, and relapse is not the end of it. He walks it with you, a day at a time.

If this is you

Recovery is some of the hardest work a person can do. It is not a straight line. There are good stretches and there are days that feel like starting over, the cravings, the shame, the relationships that were hurt, the fear that you are too far gone or that you will always be one slip from ruin. Whatever brought you here, the courage it takes to keep showing up is real, and it is not lost on God.

Jesus and the ones written off

Jesus spent his time with the people religion had given up on, and he was accused of it. To a woman dragged before him in her lowest moment, he offered not condemnation but a new start. His whole mission, he said, was for the lost.

“Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?... Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”
John 8:10-11
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

An honest word

Here is the honest part: faith is not a magic cure for addiction, and becoming a Christian does not remove the need for the daily work, for help, for a program, for other people. Many find that faith gives them a deeper reason to keep going and a strength they could not find alone, but it walks alongside treatment, it does not replace it. If you relapse, you are not disqualified; you begin again. And you were never meant to do this on your own. Reach out.

Come and see

You do not have to clean yourself up first, or have the words, or feel any particular way. The living Christ welcomed people exactly where they were, and he still does. You are invited to come as you are and see for yourself. The Gospel of John is a gentle place to begin, and it asks nothing of you but a little quiet and an honest look.

Frequently asked questions

Am I too far gone for God?
No. Jesus said his mission was to seek and save the lost, and he welcomed the very people others had given up on (Luke 19:10). No one is beyond his reach. Recovery is hard, but you are not disqualified from grace.
Does faith replace treatment or a program?
No. Faith walks alongside recovery; it does not replace medical help, treatment, or a program. Many people find that faith deepens their reason to keep going, but the daily work and the support of others still matter. Please stay connected to real help.
What if I relapse?
Relapse is a setback, not a verdict. In Christ there is always a way to begin again. What matters is getting back up and reaching out rather than isolating in shame. If you are struggling right now, please ask for help.
