A Prayer to Break Free From Addiction
Sometimes you do not have the words, only the weight, and you just need to pray. This page is for that. You do not have to pray perfectly or feel anything in particular; you only have to be honest and turn toward God as you are. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, Scripture says, which means the very brokenness you are ashamed of is the thing that draws Him close. Below is a prayer you can make your own, but first, know this: the God you are about to speak to is already leaning in, already for you, already reaching down.

Let's be honest about this
Prayer is not a magic incantation and it is not a performance you can fail. It is a person turning honestly toward God. You may pray this and still feel the pull tomorrow; that is not the prayer failing, that is the fight continuing, and prayer is how you fight it rather than proof you should not have to. So bring the whole raw thing, the wanting, the exhaustion, the shame, the small flickering hope. God is not fragile and He is not surprised. He brought people up out of horrible pits before, and set their feet on rock, and He does it still.
What's really going on
Real prayer for freedom usually joins itself to real steps: confession to a safe person, help for the body as well as the soul, cutting off access, choosing community over isolation. Prayer is not a substitute for those; it is what gives them their power and their point. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed, Scripture says, holding confession, community, and prayer together in a single sentence. So do not only pray this alone. Say it, and then let someone in. Freedom is something God loves to give through His people, not around them.
Where freedom actually comes from
When you pray, you are not shouting into an empty sky; you are speaking to the One who said, my grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Your weakness is not disqualifying; it is the very place His strength shows up. Jesus is the friend who draws near to the brokenhearted, the Savior who came to preach deliverance to the captives. What if I do not feel anything when I pray?
Feelings are not the measure of a prayer. God hears the honest turn of your heart whether or not you feel a rush of anything. Many faithful prayers are prayed through numbness and tears. Keep praying anyway; the reality is in God's faithfulness, not in your emotions.
Can I just pray, or do I need other help too?
Pray, and also reach for help. Scripture itself pairs prayer with confessing to one another and seeking healing together. Prayer plus honest community plus practical and, where needed, medical help is how most people walk into freedom. God is glad to work through all of it.
Who can pray with me right now?
You do not have to pray alone. You can ask someone to pray with you and carry this with you, so the burden is shared and not secret. Bringing it into the light with even one trustworthy person changes the fight.
