How to Read the Book of Romans
Romans is Paul's masterpiece, the clearest explanation of the gospel in the Bible. It's deep, but here's how to read it without getting lost.
Romans lays out the whole story: our need, God's rescue in Christ, new life in the Spirit, and how it all changes the way we live.
Know the big movements
Chapters 1-3: our need. 3-5: justified by faith. 6-8: new life in the Spirit. 12-16: how to live it out.
Don't rush chapters 1-3
They diagnose the problem, all have sinned, so the good news lands with its full weight.
Savor chapter 8
One of the mountaintops of Scripture: no condemnation, and nothing can separate us from God's love.
Read it more than once
Romans rewards repeated reading; each pass reveals more.
Let it fuel worship
Paul breaks into praise in 11:33-36, let the truth move your heart, not just inform your mind.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”
