How to Overcome Temptation

Everyone faces temptation, even Jesus did. The good news is that God always makes a way through. Here's how to stand strong.

Temptation itself is not sin; it's the pull toward it. Victory is less about gritting your teeth and more about staying close to God and being wise about your weak points.

Know your weak points

Temptation is predictable. Know when and where you're vulnerable, and prepare.

Flee, don't flirt

Don't linger near what tempts you. The bravest move is often simply to walk away.

Fill the void with God

Temptation grows in empty, restless places. Fill them with prayer, the Word, and good community.

Use Scripture, as Jesus did

When tempted, Jesus answered with Scripture. Hide God's Word in your heart for the moment you need it.

Bring it into the light

Secrecy gives temptation power. Confess your struggle to a trusted friend, and remember God always provides a way of escape.

“God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape.”
