Your pain is real
Hurt by the church
If the church hurt you, your pain is real, and it matters to God more than the reputation of any institution. You are allowed to be angry. You are allowed to stay away. And you are allowed to still love Jesus while you cannot walk back through those doors. Take this at your pace.
Where are you right now?
The people, not just the placeWhen it was Christians, not a building, who wounded you. When faith was used to control meNaming spiritual abuse for what it is.I am afraid to go backFor the fear that comes with the thought of returning.I want to healGentle steps for the long work of healing. What is true
Here is something worth holding onto: Jesus reserved his sharpest words not for the broken and the doubting, but for religious leaders who loaded people with burdens and hid their own cruelty behind holiness. He was not on their side. He is not asking you to pretend it did not happen, to forgive on command, or to put yourself back in harm's way. First, be cared for. Truth and any question of return can wait.
What Jesus said, and did
One small step
Your one small step: you do not have to go anywhere or forgive anyone today. Just notice that Jesus and the people who hurt you are not the same, and let that be enough for now.

Honest questions
- Does God expect me to just forgive and go back?
- No. Forgiveness is a journey, not a switch, and it never requires staying in danger, pretending abuse did not happen, or trusting people who are not safe. Healing comes first.
- Is it wrong to love Jesus but not the church right now?
- No. Many wounded people hold exactly that. Jesus is not the institution that hurt you, and your distance from a building is not distance from him.
- Where do I even start?
- You start by being honest that you were hurt, and by letting yourself be cared for before anything else. The pages below meet different parts of that wound.
There is no rush
You do not have to decide anything today. You can read a little, close the page, and come back tomorrow, or never. Nobody here is keeping score, and you owe no one an answer. When you are ready, and only then, the gentlest place to meet Jesus is in his own words, watching how he treats the tired, the ashamed, and the ones everybody else gave up on.
