Your pain is real
I was hurt by the church
Being hurt by a church is not a small thing, and it is not something you should have to just get over. The place that was supposed to be safe became the place that wounded you. That is a real grief, and God grieves it with you.
What is true
The Bible does not flinch from bad shepherds. It condemns them. Jesus called out leaders who devoured the vulnerable and dressed it up as devotion. So when you feel the wrongness of what happened to you, that instinct is not rebellion against God. It may be the most God-shaped thing in you. He is not asking you to defend what was done. He is asking to sit with you in it.
What Jesus said, and did
One small step
Your one small step: let yourself say, even just in your head, the true sentence: what happened to me was wrong. You do not have to soften it or spiritualize it. Naming it is where healing begins.

Honest questions
- Was it my fault?
- The responsibility for harm belongs to the person who caused it, not the person who was hurt. Being trusting, or hopeful, or young, did not make you to blame.
- Can I be a Christian and never go back to that church?
- Yes. Leaving a harmful church is not leaving God. You can find safe community elsewhere, or take a long time before you look, and still be held by Christ.
- Why would God let this happen in his own church?
- Churches are full of people, and people can do great harm, sometimes in God's name. That God allows human freedom does not mean he approves of what was done. Scripture shows him firmly against it.
There is no rush
You do not have to decide anything today. You can read a little, close the page, and come back tomorrow, or never. Nobody here is keeping score, and you owe no one an answer. When you are ready, and only then, the gentlest place to meet Jesus is in his own words, watching how he treats the tired, the ashamed, and the ones everybody else gave up on.
