Your pain is real
Afraid to go back to church
That knot in your stomach when you imagine walking back in is not weakness or a lack of faith. It is your body remembering that this place was not safe. You are allowed to honor that fear, and you are allowed to wait.
What is true
God does not stand at the door tapping his foot. He is not disappointed in your fear. If you ever return to any gathering, it should be a safe one, chosen freely, and entered slowly, on your terms. Perhaps a different place entirely, perhaps not for a long while. There is no spiritual penalty for taking the time your healing needs. Jesus meets you fully right where you are, in your car, in your room, in the fear itself.
What Jesus said, and did
One small step
Your one small step: do not force a return. If and when you feel ready to test the water, you might read one Gospel chapter at home first, with no building involved. Let it be that small.

Honest questions
- Is God angry that I stopped going?
- No. God sees the wound behind your fear. He is patient and kind, not keeping a record of missed Sundays.
- Do I have to go back to the same church?
- No. If a church harmed you, you never have to return there. A safer community, or a long pause, or a very slow reentry somewhere new, are all valid.
- What if I am never ready?
- Then Jesus still holds you. Church community can be part of healing, but it is not the price of his love. You are his whether or not you ever sit in a pew again.
There is no rush
You do not have to decide anything today. You can read a little, close the page, and come back tomorrow, or never. Nobody here is keeping score, and you owe no one an answer. When you are ready, and only then, the gentlest place to meet Jesus is in his own words, watching how he treats the tired, the ashamed, and the ones everybody else gave up on.
