What We Learn From the People of the Bible

The people of Scripture were not plaster saints. They were real men and women who believed and doubted, obeyed and failed, waited in the dark and were carried by grace. Their stories were written down, Paul says, for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. So each page here reads one life honestly, for the lesson it actually teaches, faith, courage, patience, repentance, the mercy that meets our failure, and then follows that life to the place every life in the Bible is pointing: to Jesus Christ, the greater Deliverer, King, Bridegroom, and Suffering Servant. These are not moral lectures. Every lesson lands on grace, and every hero, at his or her best, is a candle held up to the sun.
