Does God Still Speak Today?

Yes, though usually not the way people expect. Jesus said, my sheep hear my voice, and Christians believe God still leads and speaks to those who follow him. His clearest and most reliable voice today is Scripture, his written Word, which he speaks through by his Spirit. He also guides through prayer, through his people, and through a quiet inner sense that always agrees with what he has already said. God did not go silent; he is still speaking, and he can be heard.

Let's not dodge it

Many people ask this because they have prayed and heard nothing, or because the idea of God speaking sounds like wishful thinking or worse. That honesty is welcome. It is also true that people claim God told them all sorts of things, some of them harmful, so a little caution is wise rather than faithless. The real question underneath is often personal: does God speak to me, or only to other people. That question deserves a real answer, not a formula.

How Christians have answered

The Bible describes God speaking most fully and finally in his Son, and it treats Scripture as his living, Spirit-carried word to every generation. So the surest place to hear God is not a dramatic sign but an open Bible read prayerfully, expecting to meet him. Alongside that, Christians have long recognized his leading through prayer, through wise counsel from his people, and through inner promptings, always tested against Scripture, since God never contradicts himself. Learning his voice is less like catching a rare signal and more like learning a friend's voice by spending time close to him.
