Why Doesn't God Answer My Prayers?
God answers prayer, but not always with yes, and not always on our timing, because his thoughts and ways are higher than ours. Sometimes the answer is no, because he sees what we cannot. Sometimes it is wait, and the waiting itself is doing something in us. Sometimes his answer is not the removal of the hardship but his grace within it: my grace is sufficient for thee. Unanswered, to us, often means answered differently by a God who is wiser and kinder than our request.

Let's not dodge it
This is not a theoretical question for most people who ask it; it comes from real, aching disappointment. You prayed for healing, for a marriage, for a child, for relief, and it did not come, and the silence hurt. That pain is not a sign of weak faith, and it should not be met with a slogan. Even Jesus, in the garden, asked for a cup to pass that did not pass. So the ache of unanswered prayer is not foreign to the faith; it runs right through its center.
How Christians have answered
The Bible is remarkably honest about this. It shows God saying no to Paul three times over a real affliction, and giving grace instead of removal. It shows Jesus deliberately waiting two days while his friend Lazarus died, so that something greater could be revealed. It never promises that faith is a lever that forces God's hand; it promises that God is good, that he hears, and that he answers as a wise Father, not a vending machine. A father who gave his child every immediate yes would not be loving. Some of God's kindest answers arrive disguised as no or not yet.
Where it leads
The deepest comfort is not an explanation but a Person who prayed an unanswered prayer for us. In Gethsemane, Jesus asked to be spared, and the Father's no to him became the yes of our salvation. So when heaven seems silent, you are standing where he stood, and you are not alone in it. He does not promise you will always understand; he promises he is with you, that his grace is enough, and that no prayer offered to him is ever wasted. You can bring him your unanswered prayers exactly as they are.

Does unanswered prayer mean I lack faith?
Not necessarily. Scripture shows deeply faithful people, including Paul and Jesus himself, receiving no or wait to sincere prayers. God answers according to his wisdom and love, not according to the intensity of our believing. A no is often his kindness, not a verdict on your faith.
How should I pray when I keep getting no answer?
Keep coming honestly, including with your frustration; the Psalms are full of raw, unanswered-feeling prayers. Ask for what you long for, then entrust it to a good Father, asking for his grace to sustain you if the answer is no. Persistent, honest prayer is itself a work of faith.
