Christian Ministries
Kinds of Christian Ministry
A Christian ministry is a way the church serves God and people, often organized around a group (like youth, men, or women) or a need (like prayer, recovery, or marriage). This is a plain guide to the main kinds of ministry, what each one is, what it offers, and how to find one near you. Every path here leads back to the same two things: real community in a local church, and Christ himself.
One body, many ways to serve
The church is one body with many members, and ministries are simply the many ways that body cares for people and points them to Jesus. Some gather a particular group; others meet a particular need. None of them is the point in itself. Each exists so that someone would be known, be helped, and above all meet Christ.
Kinds of ministry, by group and by need
- Christian Youth MinistriesA Christian youth ministry is a church's ministry to teenagers, usually roughly middle and high school age.
- Christian Campus MinistriesA Christian campus ministry is a fellowship for college and university students, meeting on or near campus for worship, Bible study, prayer, and friendship.
- Christian Young Adult MinistriesA young adult ministry is a church's ministry to people roughly in their twenties and thirties, whether single or married, in school or working.
- Christian Men's MinistriesA Christian men's ministry helps men grow as followers of Jesus together, through Bible study, prayer, accountability, mentoring, and service.
- Christian Women's MinistriesA Christian women's ministry helps women grow in faith and friendship together, through Bible study, prayer, mentoring, and service.

- Christian Senior Adult MinistriesA Christian senior adult ministry serves older members of the church, often those in retirement and beyond, with fellowship, Bible study, prayer, care, and meaningful service.
- Christian Marriage MinistriesA Christian marriage ministry helps husbands and wives build strong, Christ-centered marriages, through teaching, mentoring, retreats, small groups, and help in hard seasons.
- Christian Family MinistriesA Christian family ministry helps whole households grow in faith together, supporting parents as the primary disciplers of their children and connecting the generations in one church family.
- Christian Prayer MinistriesA Christian prayer ministry is a group within the church devoted to prayer, praying for people's needs, for the church, and for the world, and helping others learn to pray.
- Christian Worship MinistriesA Christian worship ministry leads the gathered church in praising God, usually through music and song, and often serves the whole life of worship: singers, musicians, and those who run sound, media, and the flow of a service.
- Christian Mentoring ProgramsChristian mentoring pairs a more experienced believer with someone growing in faith, to walk alongside them, share life, pray, and help them follow Jesus.
- Christian Recovery MinistriesA Christian recovery ministry helps people find freedom from addiction, compulsion, and life's deep hurts, through the grace of Jesus and the support of others walking the same road.
- Christian Small Groups and Bible StudiesA Christian small group or Bible study is a handful of people who meet regularly, often in a home, to read the Bible, pray, and share life.

How to find any of them near you
Whatever you are looking for, the way in is the same: a healthy local church nearby. Most churches run these ministries or can point you to a trusted one, and The Living Bread keeps a growing directory to help you find one.
Come and belong
Behind every ministry is one simple thing: people who need one another and a Saviour who came to gather them. Ministry is only worth anything because it helps someone find Christ and the family he is building. You do not have to arrive whole. Come as you are, and come and see.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
