Christian Campus Ministries

A Christian campus ministry is a fellowship for college and university students, meeting on or near campus for worship, Bible study, prayer, and friendship. It offers students a spiritual family away from home during years of big questions and big change. Many are chapters of national parachurch ministries; others are run by local churches or denominations.

What a campus ministry is, and what it offers

College can be exhilarating and lonely at once, right when the deepest questions come. A campus ministry gives students a place to belong: large-group worship, small-group Bible study, one-to-one discipleship, prayer, service, mission trips, and friends who are chasing the same Lord. It is often where a student's childhood faith becomes their own, or where they meet Jesus for the first time.

These fellowships live on the truth that we grow through one another, not alone.

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
Proverbs 27:17

How to find one near you

The simplest way to find a campus ministry is through a healthy local church. Most churches either run one themselves or can point you to a trusted ministry nearby. You do not have to have it all figured out to walk in the door; you only have to come.

Start with a church near you. The Living Bread keeps a growing directory of churches you can search, so you can find a congregation and simply ask what they offer.

Our church graph is how discovery turns into belonging: search brings you to a page, a page brings you to a congregation, and a congregation brings you to people who will actually know your name.

Real organizations in this space

Most campus ministries are local chapters of national organizations or of a nearby church. A few of the largest and longest-serving include the following.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
A student-led movement with chapters on hundreds of campuses, known for Bible study and thoughtful engagement.
Cru
Formerly Campus Crusade for Christ, one of the largest campus ministries, with evangelism, discipleship, and community.
The Navigators
A discipleship ministry with a strong campus presence, focused on knowing Christ and helping others do the same.
Reformed University Fellowship (RUF)
The campus ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America, connecting students to a local church.
Chi Alpha
The Assemblies of God campus ministry, gathering students for worship, prayer, and mission.

The groups below are named for information only, not as an endorsement, and this is by no means a complete list. Ministries vary widely, and the best fit for you is usually the one nearest to you. Look to your own local church first, and weigh any ministry by Scripture and by the counsel of people you trust.

Come and belong

Behind every ministry is one simple thing: people who need one another and a Saviour who came to gather them. Campus ministry is only worth anything because it helps someone find Christ and the family he is building. You do not have to arrive whole. Come as you are, and come and see.
