In a dry land, living water meant fresh, flowing water, not the stale water of a cistern. Jesus used the phrase to describe what He offers the human heart: not a temporary refreshment but a spring welling up inside, satisfying a thirst that possessions and achievements never can.
The Bible speaks of a thirst in us that ordinary things cannot fill. Living water is God's answer to that ache, the gift of His own life and Spirit, freely offered to anyone who comes to Him.
