Bible Verses for Immigrants and Refugees
You have left the land you knew, whether by choice or by force, and you are building a life in an unfamiliar place, sometimes unwelcome, often afraid. God has always had a special heart for the stranger. These verses are for immigrants and refugees, to remind you that you are seen, loved, and never a stranger to Him.
What God says over immigrants and refugees
“But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.”
The stranger among you shall be as one born among you; love them as yourself.
“The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.”
The Lord preserves the strangers and relieves the fatherless and widow.
“He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
God loves the stranger; He gives them food and clothing.
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
When you pass through the waters, He is with you; they shall not overflow you.
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”
Wherever you go, even to a far land, His hand leads and holds you.
“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:”
I was a stranger, and you took Me in; Jesus is found in welcome.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
Jesus is preparing a home where you will finally, fully belong.
Where this all leads
God commanded His people again and again to love the stranger, because they too had once been strangers. Jesus Himself was a refugee child, fleeing to Egypt to escape a king. He knows what it is to be displaced, and He welcomes you. Wherever you have landed, His hand is already there, and He is preparing a home where you will belong forever.

A prayer for immigrants and refugees
Lord, You know what it is to be far from home. Watch over me in this new place. Provide for my needs, protect my family, and give me favor with the people here. Remind me I am never a stranger to You. Thank You for the home You are preparing where I will belong. In Jesus name, amen.
