Indwelling
God does not merely visit His people; He moves in. Paul reminds believers that their very bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit who lives within them. Indwelling means the living God has taken up permanent residence in us, so that we are never alone and never our own, but purchased and inhabited by grace.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”1 Corinthians 6:19
What the Spirit does
Under the old covenant God's presence filled a tabernacle and a temple made of stone. Now, Paul says, the temple is the believer's own body, because the Holy Spirit dwells inside every person who belongs to Christ. This is not an occasional influence or a distant help but a settled, continual presence. From the moment we are His, the Spirit takes up residence and does not leave. He is closer than our own breath, present in our joys and struggles, in worship and in ordinary work. Because of this, the Christian is never truly alone, and the body itself becomes holy ground, meant to honor God. Indwelling also means we belong to Another; we were bought at a price, and the God who lives in us has a rightful claim on how we live.
How to walk in it
Live as someone who is never alone. Through the day, quietly remember that the Spirit is present within you, and speak to Him as to a companion who never leaves. Honor Him in your body, treating what you do with your hands, eyes, and appetites as worship in His temple. When you feel isolated or afraid, rest in His nearness rather than your feelings. Do not grieve Him with careless sin or quench His gentle promptings; instead cultivate sensitivity by responding quickly when He nudges. Make space for stillness, since a crowded, hurried life drowns out His voice. And when you fail, remember He has not moved out; He remains to convict, cleanse, and help you begin again.
The Spirit points to Christ
The Spirit indwells us in order to make Christ present and real within. Jesus promised that He and the Father would make their home in those who love Him, and it is by the Spirit that this promise is kept. So the indwelling Spirit is how the ascended Christ is with us always, closer than He could be in the flesh. He does not fill us with a vague religious feeling but with the living Lord Himself, forming Christ's mind, love, and holiness in the temple He inhabits. The Spirit's constant work inside us is to display Jesus, to make us long for Him, and to reshape our character into His. Where the Spirit dwells, Christ is being formed, until our lives quietly reveal the Savior who lives in us.

Can the Holy Spirit leave a believer?
