A Lamp and a Light
In Psalm 119, the psalmist walks a dark road and needs to see. He calls the word a lamp for his feet and a light for his path. It is not floodlight for the whole horizon but honest light for the next step, enough to keep him from stumbling as he goes.

A lamp in the ancient world was a small clay dish of oil with a burning wick, held low and near. Every faithful step the psalmist took by lamplight was a step toward the One in whom the whole path is finally lit.
