The One Page Gospel

The whole Christian good news, on one page: God made us in love and for love. Something went wrong, and we are separated from him and from one another. But God did not give up on us. He came near in Jesus, who lived, died on the cross to carry our wrong, and rose again. The good news is that this is a free gift, received by trusting Jesus, turning toward God, and following him. It begins wherever you are.

God

Christians believe there is one God who made everything, and who is, at the very center of his being, love. He made us on purpose, in his image, to know him and to love one another.

Us, and what went wrong

We were made for love, but we all turn away, from God and from each other. The Bible calls this sin. It is not mainly about breaking rules; it is a broken relationship, and it leaves the whole world aching. Every honest person knows something of this from the inside.

Grace

Here is the surprise at the heart of it all: God did not respond with anger or distance. He came toward us. Grace means his love is a gift we could never earn and do not have to.

Jesus, the cross, the resurrection

God came near in Jesus. Jesus lived the love we could not, then went to the cross and carried the weight of human wrong himself, so we could be forgiven and brought home. Three days later, his followers say, he rose from the dead, breaking the power of death.

Faith, turning, and following

How do you receive this? Not by being good enough first. You receive it as a gift: by trusting Jesus (faith), by turning toward God from whatever you were living for (this is what repentance means, a change of direction, not a beating), and by beginning to follow him, one day at a time.

That is the whole good news. It is not a threat to frighten you but an invitation to come home. And it begins wherever you are, today, with nothing to sign and no one to tell.
