Is It Too Late to Come Back to God?

It is not too late. However far you feel you have wandered, however long it has been, or whatever you have done, the way back to God is open. Jesus told the story of a father who ran to embrace a son who had thrown everything away, and he restored a friend who had denied him three times. Grace is not earned by a clean record. It is given, and the door is still open to you.

The father runs to meet you

Many people carry a quiet fear that they have gone too far, waited too long, or done too much to come back to God. Jesus told a story precisely for that fear. A younger son took his inheritance, wasted it all, and came home expecting to be a servant at best. But his father saw him far off, ran to him, and threw his arms around him.

This is how Jesus pictures God toward the one who turns back: not cold, not counting the cost, but running with joy to embrace.

Even after failure

Peter, one of Jesus’ closest friends, denied even knowing him, three times, at the worst moment. Yet the risen Jesus sought him out, forgave him, and gave him his life’s work back. Failure was not the end of the story.

Jesus said plainly that the one who comes to him he will never cast out. Not the impressive one, not the deserving one, the one who comes. That can be you, today, exactly as you are.
