Is Any Sin Unforgivable?
Many people find one verse about an unforgivable sin and spiral into fear, convinced they have committed it. If that is you, the very fear you are feeling is strong evidence you have not. Let us look at this carefully and gently, because Scripture's overwhelming message is that God forgives, and the one hard saying about an unpardonable sin has to be read in that light, not ripped out of it. Jesus said, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men. Start there. The default of God is mercy so wide that only one narrow thing stands outside it, and it is almost certainly not what a frightened, seeking heart imagines.

Let's be honest about this
Let us be honest about the fear, because it is real and it torments sincere people. The one sin Jesus named as unforgivable, the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, is not a swear word, a stray blasphemous thought, a past of terrible sin, or a season of doubt. Read in context, it describes a settled, hardened, willful rejection of the Spirit's witness to Christ, calling the light darkness on purpose and refusing to the end the very mercy being offered. The nature of that sin is that a person committing it would not be worried about it; they would be defiantly uninterested. The anguish you feel, the longing to be right with God, is the Spirit at work in you, which is the opposite of rejecting Him.
What forgiveness really is (and isn't)
Why is that one thing beyond forgiveness? Not because God's mercy runs out, but because forgiveness is received through the Spirit who points you to Christ, and to finally and totally reject Him is to refuse the only hand reaching down to pull you out. It is unforgivable the way a lifeline is useless to someone who cuts it on purpose and keeps cutting it. But every sin brought to Christ is forgiven; that is the settled promise of the whole New Testament. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If you are able to confess it, you can be cleansed of it. Your desire to be forgiven is itself the door standing open.
Where forgiveness actually comes from
The cross is God's answer to the question is any sin unforgivable. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He died for the whole range of human evil, the very worst included. The only sin that stays unforgiven is the one a person refuses to bring to Him, and you can bring anything. Him that cometh to me, Jesus said, I will in no wise cast out. In no wise, no exception, no case too far gone. If you are afraid you have gone too far, the cure is not more fear; it is to come, right now, and find that the door He promised never to shut is still open for you.

I'm terrified I committed the unforgivable sin. Have I?
Almost certainly not. The very fact that you are anguished and want to be right with God is evidence the Holy Spirit is still working in you, which is the opposite of the hardened, willful rejection Jesus described. Someone who had truly committed that sin would not care at all. Your fear itself points to a heart still tender toward God.
What actually is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
In context it is a settled, deliberate, final rejection of the Spirit's witness to Christ, persistently calling His work evil and refusing to the end the mercy being offered. It is not a swear word, a blasphemous thought, a doubt, or a terrible past. It describes a hardened lifelong refusal, not a fearful seeker asking how to be forgiven.
So can God forgive absolutely anything I bring to Him?
Yes. Jesus said all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven, and that He will in no wise cast out anyone who comes to Him. The only sin that stays unforgiven is the one never brought to Him, refused to the end. Anything you are willing to confess, He is willing and able to cleanse completely.
