You are loved
I Don't Deserve Love
Here is the tender truth underneath that feeling: love from God was never about deserving. If it could be deserved, it would be wages, not love. The Bible says God loved us while we were still in the wrong, and gave his Son for us before we ever turned toward him. You do not have to become lovable first. You are already loved, at your worst, right now, as you are.
If some voice inside insists that you are the exception, that love is for other people, that if anyone really knew you they would leave, please hear this gently: that voice is lying to you.
You may not feel lovable. Feelings are real, but they are not always telling the truth.
What the Bible says
Love that does not wait for you to deserve it
The whole logic of the gospel runs against the idea of deserving. Christ died for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). Love, in the Bible, is not a prize handed to the worthy; it is a gift poured out on the unworthy, which is all of us. The moment you could earn it, it would stop being love and become a transaction.
And this love is not fragile. Paul says nothing in all creation, not your past, not your failure, not your worst day, can separate you from the love of God in Christ (Romans 8:38-39). The question was never whether you deserve it. The only question is whether you will receive it.
Come and be met by mercy
Jesus told a story about a son who wasted everything and came home ashamed, rehearsing his apology. But while he was still a great way off, his father saw him, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. That is the heart of God toward you. You do not have to clean yourself up first. You only have to come. Read it for yourself, or simply let someone pray with you tonight.

Questions people ask
- Why do I feel like I don't deserve love?
- Often it comes from shame, past wounds, or a lie we have believed about our worth. However real the feeling, it is not the truth. God's love was never based on deserving; he loved you while you were still far off (Romans 5:8).
- Does God love me even if I don't deserve it?
- Yes. That is the whole point. If love could be deserved, it would be wages, not love. God commends his love toward us in that Christ died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). You are loved at your worst.
- How can I feel loved when I believe I'm unlovable?
- Feelings follow slowly. Start by receiving the fact of God's love rather than waiting to feel it, let one safe person know you, and let his word in Romans 8:38-39 speak over the lie. Feeling lovable usually grows out of being loved, not the reverse.
