Am I Too Broken for God?
No, you are not too broken for God. That fear gets it exactly backwards. Jesus said he came not for the healthy but for the sick, not for the righteous but for those who know they are not. Your brokenness is not the thing that keeps you out; it is the very thing he came to bind up. God is near to the broken in heart, not far from them, and he has never turned away someone honest about their need.
Maybe you feel shattered in a way that seems beyond repair, too damaged, too much, too far gone for even God to want. Maybe you have started to believe your brokenness disqualifies you.
It does not. In God’s economy, the broken are not the rejects. They are the ones he came for.
What the Bible says
Brokenness is the doorway, not the barrier
Jesus was found again and again with the very people the religious world had written off: the failing, the ashamed, the ones whose lives were visibly in pieces. He said plainly that he came for the sick, not for those who imagine they are well. So your sense of being broken does not put you at the back of the line. It puts you exactly where he is looking.
God does not require you to be whole before you come. He binds up the broken-hearted (Psalm 147:3); he is near to them (Psalm 34:18). What looks to you like disqualifying damage looks to him like the place he wants to heal.
Come and be met by mercy
Jesus told a story about a son who wasted everything and came home ashamed, rehearsing his apology. But while he was still a great way off, his father saw him, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. That is the heart of God toward you. You do not have to clean yourself up first.
