Your pain is real

Does Jesus understand church hurt?

Jesus understands church hurt more intimately than almost anyone, because the religious authorities of his day plotted against him, and one of his own inner circle sold him out. He was not spared betrayal by the faithful. He lived it.

It can feel like your specific wound, harm from people who claimed to represent God, is too strange or too shameful to bring to God himself. As if he would take their side. As if the institution matters more to him than you do.

What is true

Read the story again. The people who conspired to kill Jesus were the religious leaders. He was tried in a holy court, condemned with Scripture on their lips, abandoned by his closest friends. When you bring church hurt to Jesus, you are not bringing it to someone who will defend the institution. You are bringing it to someone who was crushed by that same machinery, and who is on the side of the wounded, always.
