What Is the Point of Christianity?
The point of Christianity is not mainly to make you religious, to give you rules, or to get you into heaven when you die, though it speaks to all of that. The point is a restored relationship: to bring you back into a living friendship with the God who made you and loves you, so that you can be truly known, forgiven, and alive, now and forever. Jesus summed up his own purpose in one line: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Christianity exists to reconnect you to the source of life itself. Its point is not a better version of you through effort, but a whole new life through Christ, and a love you were made for.

Here is the plain answer to why any of it matters. Human beings are made for God, and we spend our lives restless because we are cut off from him, trying to fill a God-shaped space with things that cannot fill it, success, romance, pleasure, approval. Christianity says that ache is not a defect; it is a signpost. This is life eternal, Jesus prayed, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. Notice that eternal life is defined as knowing God, not merely living endlessly. The point of Christianity, then, is to answer the deepest human questions: Am I loved? Am I forgiven? Does my life mean anything? Is death the end? And it answers with a Person, Jesus, through whom you are loved beyond measure, fully forgiven, given real purpose, and promised that death is not the end but the door home.
A little deeper
Christianity also gives life a shape and a direction, not as a burden but as a gift. Once you are reconciled to God, you are handed a way to live that actually fits how you were made: to love God and to love people. When asked what God most wants, the Bible answers simply, to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. That is a life of meaning: not chasing your own comfort, but joining God in loving the world, caring for the hurting, doing what is right, and pointing others to the love you have found. And it comes with a hope that changes everything about how you face suffering and death: that this broken world will be healed, that wrongs will be set right, and that those who belong to Jesus will live with him forever in a world without pain. So the point of Christianity is life, real life, both a restored relationship with God now and an unbreakable hope for what is to come.

All of this, meaning, forgiveness, purpose, hope, is found in a Person, not a program. The point of Christianity is finally Jesus himself: to know him, to be loved by him, and to be made new in him. He is what your restlessness has been reaching for all along. He called himself the bread of life for exactly this reason: he is the One who satisfies the hunger no achievement or relationship could ever fill. To find him is to find the point of everything.

Is the point of Christianity just to go to heaven when I die?
Heaven is part of the hope, but the deeper point is a restored relationship with God that begins now, not only after death. Jesus said he came to give abundant life, and defined eternal life as knowing God. Christianity is about being reconciled to God today and forever, not merely securing a future destination.
Can't I have a meaningful life without Christianity?
People find real meaning in many ways, and Christianity does not deny that. But it claims there is a deeper meaning we were specifically made for, knowing and being loved by God, that nothing else finally satisfies. The restlessness so many feel even amid good lives is, it says, a signpost pointing home to God.
What difference does it actually make in daily life?
A great deal: a settled sense of being loved and forgiven, freedom from having to prove yourself, a purpose bigger than your own comfort, real community, and a hope that holds in suffering and death. Christianity does not promise an easy life, but it offers a life that is no longer alone, aimless, or without hope.
