A Bible reading plan for
The I Am Sayings of Jesus
7 days, one I am saying each
Seven times in the Gospel of John, Jesus says I am, and unveils who He is: the bread of life, the light of the world, the door, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth, and the life, the true vine. This seven-day plan reads each in its setting, letting Jesus tell you, in His own words, exactly who He is.
“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”John 8:58 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Day 1
I am the bread of life. He satisfies the hunger of the soul that no other thing can fill.
Day 2
I am the light of the world. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness.
Day 3
I am the door of the sheep, and I am the good shepherd that giveth His life for the sheep.
Day 4
I am the resurrection, and the life. His word to every grave and every grief.
Day 5
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Day 6
I am the true vine. Abide in me, for without me ye can do nothing.
Day 7
Before Abraham was, I am. The claim beneath every saying: Jesus is God with us.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
Behind every I am stands the name God gave at the burning bush, I AM THAT I AM. In these sayings Jesus is quietly claiming to be God with us, and offering Himself as everything we need: food, light, safety, guidance, life. Read them and let Him answer the deepest questions of your heart with Himself. He does not merely give bread and light and life; He is them.

What are the seven I am sayings of Jesus?
In John's Gospel, Jesus says: I am the bread of life (John 6), the light of the world (John 8), the door and the good shepherd (John 10), the resurrection and the life (John 11), the way, the truth, and the life (John 14), and the true vine (John 15). Each reveals a different way He meets our deepest needs.
Why are the I am sayings significant?
Because I am echoes the name of God revealed to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). In these sayings Jesus is claiming divine identity and offering Himself as everything we need. In John 8:58 He says, before Abraham was, I am, and His hearers understood it as a claim to be God.
How do the I am sayings help me know Jesus?
They let Jesus define Himself in His own words, meeting real human needs: hunger, darkness, danger, death, lostness, fruitlessness. Reading them, as in this plan, helps you see not just what Jesus does but who He is, and invites you to trust Him as the one who truly satisfies, guides, and gives life.
