I Feel Forgotten
To feel forgotten is to sense that you have slipped out of everyone's mind, that the world moved on and left you behind, that even God may have misplaced you. It can settle in during a long illness, a hard season, an ordinary invisible life, or a stretch of prayers that seem unanswered. If that is your ache, hear the tenderest promise in all of Scripture, spoken by God to people who said the very thing you feel: I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands. You are not forgotten. You are engraved on the hands of God, where He cannot look without seeing you.

You are not the only one who feels this
Let us be honest that the feeling of being forgotten is powerful precisely because it is so hard to disprove from inside it; silence and waiting can feel exactly like abandonment. The people of God once cried that very complaint, the LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. God did not scold them for it. He answered it, with a mother's image of the fiercest love imaginable and then said His love is even fiercer. Your feeling of being forgotten is real, but it is not the last word, and it is not the truth about where you stand with God.
What's really going on underneath
Under the fear of being forgotten is the longing to matter enough that someone keeps you in mind, holds you, does not let you drop. Human memory is fickle; people do forget, not always from cruelty but from their own distraction and limits. God is not like that. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God, the Psalm marvels, how great is the sum of them; if I should count them, they are more in number than the sand. You are not an afterthought God occasionally recalls. You are constantly on His mind, thought of more times than there are grains of sand on every beach on earth.
The God who sees you
Can a woman forget her sucking child, God asks, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb, and then, astonishingly, yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Even the most unforgettable human love might fail; His will not. And to prove it beyond doubt, God became flesh in Jesus and let the nails engrave His love into His actual palms, so that the marks of how much you matter are written on His hands forever. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands. You are not forgotten. You are held, named, and remembered by the God who cannot forget you.

Does God forget people?
No. God says even a nursing mother might forget her child, yet He will not forget you (Isaiah 49:15), and He has graven you on the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16). Human memory is limited and people do forget, but God's remembering of you is constant and unfailing. His thoughts toward you outnumber the grains of sand (Psalm 139:17-18). You are not lost to Him.
Why does God feel silent when I feel forgotten?
Silence and waiting can feel like abandonment, but they are not the same thing. God's people in the Bible voiced this exact complaint, and He did not rebuke them; He reassured them. A season of unanswered prayer or hiddenness is not proof He has forgotten you. His love does not switch off when His voice feels quiet, and He often works most in the waiting.
