When you are here, He is here
When You Feel Worthless
Somewhere along the way you started to believe you do not matter much. Maybe someone told you so, again and again, until it felt like fact. Maybe no one had to say it, and the silence did the work. Now there is a voice in you that measures your worth and always comes up short, that wonders if anyone would truly notice if you were gone. I want to be gentle here, because that belief is heavy and it has been with you a long time. But I also need to tell you it is not the truth about you. This page exists to bring you to Jesus, who sees you with completely different eyes than the ones you have been seeing yourself with, and whose verdict over your worth is the only one that finally counts. Please read on.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”Psalm 139:14
“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”Luke 12:7
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”1 Corinthians 6:20
Named honestly
Feeling worthless is one of the loneliest feelings there is, because it convinces you that you deserve the loneliness. It can come from being used, or ignored, or compared and always found lacking. It can be the slow residue of failures you cannot forgive yourself for. Whatever planted it, the feeling is real and it hurts, and no one should breeze past it with a cheerful line about self-esteem. But feeling worthless and being worthless are two entirely different things. A feeling, however loud and however old, is not a measurement of your actual value. The voice that tells you that you are nothing is lying, even when it uses your own memories to do it. You are worth far more than that voice will ever admit.
What God speaks over you
God's word about your worth stands directly against the voice that diminishes you. In Psalm one hundred thirty-nine, you are described as fearfully and wonderfully made, knit together with intention, known completely before you drew a breath. In Luke chapter twelve, Jesus says that not one sparrow is forgotten by God, and that you are worth far more than many sparrows, that even the hairs of your head are counted. And in First Corinthians chapter six, Scripture says you were bought with a price, that you are not your own throwaway thing but the treasured possession of God, purchased at the cost of Christ Himself. That is what you are worth to Him. Not nothing. Everything. The price He was willing to pay is the truest measure of your value.
How Jesus meets you here
Look at what Jesus was willing to pay, and you will see what you are worth to Him. He did not give His life for a worthless thing. He gave it for you, deliberately, with your face in mind. On the cross He was not settling a debt for someone He tolerated. He was rescuing someone He treasured. That is the answer to the voice that says you do not matter. The Son of God matched His own blood against your worth and decided you were worth it. He sought you out when you felt most forgettable. He calls you by name. He does not love a cleaned-up future version of you. He loves the you that feels worthless right now, and He calls that you His own. Let His verdict be louder than the old cruel one. It is truer.

Questions people ask
How can I be valuable when I have done so little with my life?
Because your worth was never based on what you produce. God calls you fearfully and wonderfully made before you accomplish a single thing, and Jesus paid for you knowing your whole record. Value that had to be earned could always be lost. The worth God gives is a gift rooted in His love, not in your resume. You matter because He made you and treasures you, full stop, no achievements required.
What if the feeling of worthlessness will not go away?
Feelings that were built over years rarely lift overnight, and there is no shame in that. Truth can take time to sink below the feeling. Keep returning to what God says about you, even when it does not yet feel true, and consider talking to someone, whether a trusted friend, a counselor, or us at The Living Bread. If the feeling grows dark or dangerous, please reach out to someone today. You are worth that call.
