Trusting God
To trust God is to lean the full weight of your life on Him rather than on your own understanding, believing that He is good, that He is in control, and that He holds what you cannot. The Bible calls us to trust the Lord with all our heart (Proverbs 3:5-6), especially when the way is unclear, because His character is faithful even when our circumstances are not. Trust is not the absence of questions; it is choosing to rest in God in the middle of them.

What Jesus taught about trusting God
Jesus taught trust more than almost anything. He told us not to worry about our lives, because the Father who feeds the birds and clothes the wildflowers knows exactly what we need (Matthew 6:25-34). He slept through a storm and, waking, asked His terrified friends, 'Where is your faith?' (Luke 8:25). He invited Peter to step out of the boat and walk to Him on the water. And in His darkest hour in Gethsemane, He modeled perfect trust: 'not my will, but thine, be done' (Luke 22:42). To trust God is to follow Jesus into that same surrender.
Examples of trusting God in the Bible
- Abraham trusted God enough to obey even when it made no sense, and God provided (Genesis 22).
- Joseph was betrayed and imprisoned, yet trusted God's hand: 'ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good' (Genesis 50:20).
- Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego faced the furnace saying, 'our God is able to deliver us... but if not,' we still will not bow (Daniel 3:17-18).
- David wrote the Psalms of trust from real danger: 'The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want' (Psalm 23).
- Mary answered the impossible with trust: 'be it unto me according to thy word' (Luke 1:38).
How to grow in trusting God, practically
- Take it to God in prayer instead of carrying it alone. Name the specific thing you are afraid of.
- Remember His past faithfulness. Write down times He came through, and read them back when trust runs low.
- Stand your mind on His Word: 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee' (Isaiah 26:3).
- Take the next right step and leave the outcome to Him. Trust is shown in obedience, not in certainty.
- Surround yourself with people who trust God. Faith grows in company; ask someone to pray with you.
- Trust Him in the small things, and it will be there for the big ones. Trust is a muscle that grows with use.
