Starting Over With God

Starting over with God is not a ceremony you have to perform correctly. It is a turning: coming back, telling him the truth, and receiving a mercy that was already reaching for you. You do not have to fix yourself first, prove your sincerity, or make up for lost time. You come as you are, and he does the restoring. Today is a completely valid day to begin again.

Maybe it has been years. Maybe you walked away, or drifted, or got hurt by people who claimed his name. Maybe you have started over so many times that the phrase feels hollow.

None of that puts you outside his reach. The distance you feel is not the distance he keeps.

Starting over is mostly this: turn toward God instead of away, tell him honestly where you have been, trust that Christ has already made a way home, and take one small next step, a prayer, a page of the Gospel, a message to one honest friend.

You are not restarting a machine you have to get running perfectly. You are coming home to a Person who has been watching the road.

One small step: pray the simplest honest prayer you can. Something like, "God, I am coming back. I do not have this together. Thank you that you do." Then read a single chapter, John 1 is a gentle place to begin.
