Operation Mobilisation

Prayer & missions · Founded 1957 · by George Verwer · Carlisle, England, United Kingdom

Operation Mobilisation, often called OM, is an international Christian missions organization that began in 1957 through the vision of George Verwer and a small band of students distributing Scripture. It mobilizes people to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, plant churches, and serve communities among the least reached. OM works across many nations, including through its ships that carry books, help, and hope to port cities around the world.

What they do

Operation Mobilisation recruits, trains, and sends teams of Christians into gospel work across many countries, focusing on places and peoples who have had little chance to hear about Jesus. Teams evangelize, plant and strengthen churches, distribute Bibles and Christian literature, and disciple new believers so that local congregations can take root and grow.

OM is widely known for its ship ministry, which brings books, humanitarian care, and Christian witness to port cities on several continents. Alongside this, OM engages in mercy ministries such as caring for the vulnerable, responding to human trafficking, and offering practical help that opens doors for the message of Christ.

The Scripture behind the work

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

Where the door leads

Operation Mobilisation exists to help people meet Jesus Christ and follow Him within a local church. Everything, from literature to mercy work, is meant to point to the Savior who gave His life for the world. A simple next step is to read one of the Gospels, such as Mark, and ask Christ to make Himself known to you.
