A movement where Christ is named

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship

Campus & students · Founded 1941 · by C. Stacey Woods · Madison, Wisconsin

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a campus ministry that established its United States movement in 1941, growing out of earlier student Christian fellowships in Britain and Canada. C. Stacey Woods helped launch the American work. InterVarsity plants and nurtures Christian communities among college and university students and faculty, emphasizing evangelism, discipleship, Scripture study, and the call to follow Jesus in every area of life.

What they do

InterVarsity establishes student-led chapters on college and university campuses where students gather for worship, Bible study, prayer, and fellowship centered on Jesus Christ.

It emphasizes inductive Scripture study, evangelism, and discipleship, and works with both students and faculty to connect faith with academic life and vocation.

InterVarsity also hosts conferences, retreats, and training events, and includes ministries focused on missions and on serving a wide range of student communities.

The Scripture behind the work

“He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.”
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
“Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:”

Where the door leads

InterVarsity points people to Jesus through close study of the Bible, honest questions, and community where students explore faith together. Someone curious might join a chapter Bible study, attend a large-group gathering, or read one of the Gospels with a friend, taking an unhurried next step toward knowing Christ.
