How to Find Hope

When hope runs thin, everything feels heavier. Biblical hope is not wishful thinking but a confident trust anchored in God, and it can hold you when nothing else will.

  1. Anchor your hope in God, not circumstances

Feelings and situations shift, but God does not. Root your hope in His unchanging character rather than in things going your way.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? ... hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him.”Psalm 42:11, King James Version

  2. Remember His faithfulness

Hope grows by looking back at what God has done. His past faithfulness is the ground of confidence for what is ahead.

“It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed ... great is thy faithfulness.”Lamentations 3:22-23, King James Version

  3. Hold on to His promises

God has spoken words of hope over your future. Take them as an anchor for your soul when the waves are high.

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.”Hebrews 6:19, King James Version

  4. Bring your despair to God honestly

You do not have to fake hope. Pour out your heavy heart to God, who meets the honest and the hurting.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.”Psalm 34:18, King James Version

  5. Let hope lift your eyes forward

The Christian story does not end in the dark. Fix your eyes on the future God has promised, where every tear is wiped away.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow.”Revelation 21:4, King James Version

The One who makes this possible: Jesus

Our hope has a name: Jesus. Because He rose from the dead, death and despair do not get the final word, and the future is safe in His hands. He is called our hope, a living hope that cannot fade. However dark today feels, if you are His, the best is still ahead, and He will carry you to it. If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, please reach out right now to someone you trust or a crisis line; you are not alone, and your life matters.

You are not meant to carry this alone. You can ask someone to pray with you, find people near you, or, if you would like a gentle place to begin, start with Jesus here.
