Grief and Comfort
Grief is love with nowhere to go, and God does not rush it or shame it. Scripture says He is near to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18), that those who mourn are blessed and will be comforted (Matthew 5:4), and that for those in Christ, death is not the final word (John 11:25). One day God Himself will wipe away every tear (Revelation 21:4).
Key verses about grief
What Jesus taught about grief
Jesus entered our grief. He wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35), even knowing He would raise him, because grief is real and love mourns. He was 'a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief' (Isaiah 53:3). He drew near to widows and the broken, and He promised, 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.' (Matthew 5:4). The God you grieve to is a God who has grieved.
Examples of grief in the Bible
