An encounter with Jesus

The Woman Who Anointed Jesus

A sinful woman who wept at Jesus' feet

Read the chapter: Luke 7

“And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,”

What they wanted

She was known in the town as a sinner. She comes uninvited into a Pharisee's dinner, stands behind Jesus weeping, washes His feet with her tears, dries them with her hair, and pours out expensive perfume. She wants nothing but to give Him everything, and to be near Him.

What Jesus did

The host is scandalized that Jesus lets such a woman touch Him. Jesus tells a short parable about two debtors forgiven, and says, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much. Then to her: Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

What changed

She came in as the town's sinner and left forgiven and at peace. Jesus received the love that her forgiveness poured out, and He honored her in front of the man who despised her.

For you if you feel like your sins are too many to be forgiven. If you believe your sins are too many, this woman is for you. Jesus does not count them; He forgives them, and the ones who have been forgiven much are often the ones who love Him most.
Jesus, my sins are many, and I bring them all to You. Forgive me, and let me love You the way she did. Amen.

He still meets people like this

Every one of these people met Jesus as they were, not as they should have been. He has not changed. You can meet Him now.
