A Bible reading plan for
The Sermon on the Mount
7 days through Matthew 5-7
The Sermon on the Mount is the greatest sermon ever preached, Jesus' portrait of life in God's kingdom. This seven-day plan walks slowly through Matthew 5 to 7, a section at a time, letting His words on blessing, anger, love, prayer, worry, and true wisdom reshape how you see everything.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Day 1
The Beatitudes: the surprising blessedness of the poor in spirit, the mourning, the meek. And you are salt and light.
Day 2
Jesus goes to the heart, beyond anger and lust to the root, and calls us to love even enemies.
Day 3
Giving, praying, and fasting for God's eyes, not others'. And the Lord's Prayer at the center.
Day 4
Treasure in heaven, and freedom from worry: seek first the kingdom, and your Father will provide.
Day 5
On judging, asking, and the golden rule: do to others as you would have them do to you.
Day 6
The narrow way, good fruit, and the wise builder who hears these words and does them.
Day 7
Read the Beatitudes again, and ask which one Jesus is forming in you this week. Let the sermon become prayer.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
The Sermon on the Mount is not a ladder of rules to climb but a portrait of the life Jesus Himself lived perfectly and now forms in those who follow Him. Read it not with despair at how high the bar is, but with hope, because the One who taught it also lived it for you and lives it in you by His Spirit. He is both the teacher and the power to obey.

What is the Sermon on the Mount?
It is Jesus' longest recorded teaching, found in Matthew 5 to 7, describing life in the kingdom of God. It includes the Beatitudes, teaching on anger, lust, love of enemies, giving, prayer (including the Lord's Prayer), worry, judging, and the call to build your life on His words like a wise builder on rock.
How should I read the Sermon on the Mount?
Slowly and personally, a section at a time as in this plan. Do not rush past the hard sayings or reduce them to impossible rules; read them as Jesus' vision of a transformed heart, lived by His grace and power. Ask, as you go, what this shows about God's kingdom and what He is forming in you.
Is the Sermon on the Mount possible to live?
On our own strength, no; the bar is God's own character. But Jesus lived it perfectly for us and now forms His life in those who follow Him by His Spirit. The sermon drives us to depend on Him, and then, in Him, its way of life becomes increasingly real, not as a burden but as freedom.
