A Bible reading plan for
The Fruit of the Spirit
9 days, one fruit at a time
The fruit of the Spirit is the character God grows in those who walk with Him: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. This nine-day plan takes one at a time, showing that this is not a checklist to achieve but fruit the Spirit produces as we abide in Christ.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”Galatians 5:22 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Day 1
The whole list of the fruit of the Spirit, set against the works of the flesh. Read it as one picture of a Spirit-filled life.
Day 2
Love. The greatest fruit, described in detail: patient, kind, not envious, never failing.
Day 3
Joy. Rejoice in the Lord always, a joy that does not depend on circumstances.
Day 4
Peace. My peace I give unto you, not as the world gives. A settled heart in Christ.
Day 5
Longsuffering and forbearance. Bearing with one another and forgiving, as Christ forgave you.
Day 6
Goodness and mercy. Be ye merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Kindness that reflects God's own.
Day 7
Faithfulness. The long line of those who trusted God and were faithful to the end.
Day 8
Meekness. Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart. Gentleness that comes from resting in God.
Day 9
Temperance, or self-control. Running the race with discipline, for a prize that lasts.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
The fruit of the Spirit is really a portrait of Jesus, His love, His joy, His peace, and the Spirit's work is to form His character in you. You do not manufacture this fruit by trying harder; you bear it by staying connected to Him, the true vine. Abide in Christ, and His life flows through you and grows into fruit that lasts.

What is the fruit of the Spirit?
In Galatians 5:22-23, it is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), gentleness (kindness), goodness, faith (faithfulness), meekness, and temperance (self-control). It is the character the Holy Spirit grows in a believer's life, in contrast to the works of the flesh listed just before it.
How does the fruit of the Spirit grow in me?
Not by gritting your teeth to produce it, but by abiding in Christ and walking in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 25). As you stay connected to Jesus, the true vine (John 15), His life naturally grows this fruit in you over time. Your part is to keep abiding; the growth is the Spirit's work.
Is the fruit of the Spirit one fruit or nine?
The passage says fruit, singular, suggesting these nine qualities are facets of one Spirit-produced character rather than nine separate items to collect. They grow together as a whole, all reflecting the character of Jesus formed in a believer by the Spirit.
