In short
Jesus died in our place. Christians believe He took the punishment our sins deserved so that we could be forgiven and made right with God. His death was not a defeat but a rescue, love laying itself down for us.The Bible teaches that sin separates us from a holy God and carries a real cost. On the cross, Jesus willingly bore that cost for us, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God.
This is why Christians call it good news: what you could never pay, He paid in full. You are not asked to earn God's love; you are asked to receive it.
