In short
Christians forgive because they have first been forgiven by God in Christ. Forgiveness is a choice to release a debt and hand the justice to God, not to pretend the wrong did not happen. It is hard, but with God's help it is possible, and it sets you free.Forgiveness does not mean the hurt was small or that trust is instantly restored. It means you choose, often again and again, to let go of your right to revenge and to entrust the person and the wrong to God. You can forgive because Christ forgave you at infinite cost.
Ask God for the grace to begin; He gives it to those who ask.
