Who Was James, son of Zebedee in the Bible?
James was a fisherman, the brother of John, one of Jesus' inner three, and the first of the apostles to be martyred for his faith.
James and his brother John left their father's fishing boat to follow Jesus, and were nicknamed sons of thunder for their fiery zeal. James belonged to the inner circle who witnessed the transfiguration and Jesus' agony in Gethsemane.
He once sought a place of honor and was told he would instead share Jesus' cup of suffering. Years later, that word came true: James became the first apostle to die for Christ, killed by the sword of King Herod Agrippa.
