What Does the Bible Say About Emptiness?

The Bible understands the hollow feeling that things which promised to satisfy have left behind, and it points to the only well that never runs dry. Jesus offers living water and the bread of life, satisfying a thirst that food, success, and pleasure were never able to fill. Emptiness, honestly faced, can become an invitation to him.

Emptiness is often a signpost, not just a symptom. The restlessness you feel may be pointing past every good thing that could not finally fill you toward the God who made you for himself.

You do not have to strive your way out of emptiness. You can come, as you are, to the One who offers to satisfy the deepest thirst you have.

The deepest answer is Jesus

Jesus stood up and cried, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink; the emptiness you feel is exactly the thirst he came to fill.
