What Does the Bible Say About Shame?

Shame says you are not just someone who did wrong but someone who is wrong, and the Bible answers it with the good news that in Christ there is no condemnation. Scripture promises that those who look to God will not be ashamed, because he covers, forgives, and welcomes. God does not deal with shame by agreeing with it, but by removing it.

Shame thrives in hiding, so the first movement out of it is to bring it into the light with God, who is not surprised and does not turn away. He has seen the worst and still calls you his own.

There is a difference between conviction, which points to something you can bring to God and be cleansed of, and shame, which just accuses you of being beyond help. God convicts to heal; he never shames to destroy.

The deepest answer is Jesus

On the cross Jesus took not only our guilt but our shame, so that everything we would hide could be covered by him.
