What Does the Bible Say About Betrayal?

The Bible does not look away from betrayal; some of its most painful moments are friends and family turning against one another, and Jesus himself was betrayed by a close companion. Scripture invites us to bring that deep wound to God, who is near to the brokenhearted, to release vengeance to him, and to trust him to bring good even out of others' evil.

Forgiving a betrayer does not mean pretending it did not happen or instantly restoring trust. It means releasing the debt to God's justice so that bitterness does not become a second wound you carry for years.

Jesus was sold by a friend for silver and still went to the cross to save even those who betrayed him; no one understands your wound better.
