What Does ‘Prophecy’ Mean in the Bible?

Prophecy is a message from God spoken through people: revealing His truth, calling hearts back to Him, and at times foretelling what is to come.

Prophecy is God speaking through human voices. It is broader than predicting the future; much of it is God calling His people to justice, repentance, comfort, and hope. When it does foretell, it does so to reveal God's purposes, not merely to satisfy curiosity.

The Bible insists that true prophecy comes from God's Spirit, not from human invention, and that it can be tested by whether it aligns with what God has already revealed. Its ultimate aim is always to point people to God and, above all, to Christ.
