What Jesus is really saying
Jesus faced the full force of temptation and did not fall, which means He understands the pull from the inside and can help us in it. He never treats being tempted as sin; He treats it as a battle, and He hands us real weapons: the word of God and prayer. We do not fight alone.
Who these words reveal Him to be
He faced the full weight of temptation and did not fall, which no one but the sinless One could do. Jesus is God with us, tempted as we are yet without sin, so that He can rescue the tempted. He is not a distant Lord unable to sympathize but the Savior who fought our battle and won. Because He overcame, He can hold us, and His victory becomes our strength.
Come to Him
When temptation presses in, you are not weak beyond hope and you are not alone. The One who overcame every temptation stands ready to strengthen you. Call on Him, and He will help.
