The words of Jesus
What Did Jesus Say About Marriage?
When asked about marriage, Jesus went back to the beginning, to God's own design. Here is what He said.
“Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?”
Jesus, in Matthew 19:4-5, King James Version
Marriage is God's idea, joining two into one.
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
Jesus, in Matthew 19:6, King James Version
God Himself binds a marriage; it is meant to hold.
“But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife.”
Jesus, in Mark 10:6-7, King James Version
The pattern for marriage reaches back to creation.
Come to Him
Jesus honored marriage as a sacred joining and pointed beyond it to His own faithful love for His people, the love every lasting marriage is meant to reflect.
