The Bible opens with a river watering a garden and closes with a river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God. Between them, water is everywhere and always more than water: a sea that parts so slaves can walk free, a river that opens so a people can come home, bitter water made sweet by a tree, still waters where a shepherd leads his sheep, and a noon well where a tired traveler offers a thirsty woman a water that ends thirst forever. Each page below follows one water through Scripture, tells honestly where its meaning is stated and where it is drawn out, and shows how the whole thread leads to Jesus, who stood up and cried, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.
